SUCCESS IS NOT FINAL. FAILURE IS NOT FATAL: IT IS THE COURAGE TO CONTINUE THAT COUNT.
For a long time I have wanted to do calisthenics (I know…! I can’t even pronounce the word without doubting I would mess it up ) Anyway it basically using one’s body weight for resistance, requires minimal equipment or none at all. And it has many benefits, such as increase of strength, fitness, and flexibility through movements such as pulling, pushing, swinging or bending.
Then there is weightlifting; which basically involves lifting heavy bars to strengthen the muscle . I have been doing this for the past 3 years and I love it.
My problem was how to improve on my body weight strength and movements without abandoning weight lifting. I got a solution and at first I didn’t like it, am still getting the hang of it though. So last month I met these friends in a gym and they are into calisthenics( they really are) I decided to join them..! Not a fan of workout groups but there is always a first of everything.
And this is what they did, one week they would do body weight training then the next week weightlifting. I could not imagine myself NOT lifting weights a whole week. I tried but I would find myself going to the squat rack, doing some deadlift or simply going to the leg press machine. Trying to adapt though.
For your information, I have lost some of my visible muscles especially my upper body but I can see am gaining more strength. My hand muscles are like bye bye dear…am never coming back( but they will be back). But every day I go that gym and try out something new, and succeed, ooohh ! the pleasure. If I fail I got a new challenge to beat.
It’s a new month and I am willing to see this through, at least for some few months and see where this takes me on my fitness journey. What is fitness if you were never willing to try new ideas and challenge yourself.
